ACTING SPEAKER TO MAKE A STATEMENT ON VONC

Acting Speaker, Koni Iguan is expected to make a statement tomorrow (Thursday) in relation to the motion of No-confidence filed by the Parliamentary Opposition yesterday, according to Parliament Clerk Kala Aufa.

It is not clear whether the members of the Private Business Committee met today as expected and deliberated on the matter.

Parliament was adjourned to tomorrow at 10am.

PNG SUN asked Clerk Aufa whether the meeting was not held due to the Supreme Court reference which the Jema Lawyers filed today on behalf of their client Minister for Justice and Attorney-General, Pila Niningi.

Clerk Aufa only indicated that Iguan would address it.

Through this special reference, lawyer McRonald Nale sought the Supreme Court’s urgent interpretation on the VoNC motion.

In a letter addressed to the assistant registrar for the Supreme Court Registry, Nale requested them for a date and time for this case to be heard by the court today.

PNG SUN sought a comment on the motion from Private Business Committee chairman, Philip Undialu but to no avail. It is understood that Parliamentary protocols also prohibit him from disclosing meeting resolutions of the committee.
