OTML CELEBRATES MILESTONE IN INVESTING IN WORKFORCE

The Ok Tedi Mining Limited (OTML) has recently celebrated yet another milestone in having certified its first batch of motor rewinders following two-year training and assessment.

OTML’s Infrastructure Support Services (ISS) Rewind Shop presented seven Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Certificates to the first batch of Qualified Motor Rewinders produced by the company.

The company in a media statement said: “After nearly two years of rigorous training and assessment, these individuals successfully acquired their certification from the Queensland Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institution, under the guidance of experienced mentors and instructors from OTML’s Training and Capability Development (T&CD) Department and Queensland TAFE.”

Motor Rewinding is a critical aspect servicing all operational areas of the business and each recipient demonstrated determination to expand their knowledge and skills in this field.

Their journey was marked by hours of commitment, practical application, and hands-on experience, all aimed at mastering motor rewinding.

This achievement is a testament to OTML investing in its workforce, empowering employees to reach their full potential, and promoting a culture of continuous learning and development.

Manager ISS, Akolo Kotange, acknowledged the great support from the T&CD in successfully seeing the seven graduate.

“It’s part of OTML’s vision and obligation to upskill more Papua New Guineans so we produce a qualified and trained workforce for the nation who will continue to contribute to the growing economy,” Mr Kotange said.

Manager T&CD, Ian Strachan, said: “As PNG is yet to establish a formal Training Program for the Motor Rewind Trade, this program provides the recipients with the skills and knowledge to complete Electrical Motor repairs safely and efficiently and empowers them to impart those learnt skills onto our trainees.”

With Mine Life Extended in principle to 2050, OTML will continue to invest in training by creating sustainable career paths and contributing to the development of skills to its workforce, the local communities and the people of Papua New Guinea.
