OTML AXED PUMA ENERGY FROM SUPPLYING FUEL

The Ok Tedi Mining Limited (OTML) has axed its fuel service contractor, Puma Energy Limited from supplying diesel and JET A1 fuel to sustain its operations in Tabubil, Western Province.

The company in a media statement said: “This follows the prolonged inability of Puma (Energy PNG Limited) to provide consistent diesel and JET A1 fuel supply and fulfill its contractual obligations.”

“Despite making efforts to work constructively with Puma, the company’s strong-arm tactics, exemplified by its recent decision to discontinue the supply of JETA1 and serve OTML with a notice of intention to vacate and demobilize its facilities in Tabubil — despite OTML’s offers to purchase these facilities — have prompted OTML to explore alternative solutions,” OTML said.

Consequently, the company has effectively engaged with alternative providers, facilitating a seamless transition toward self-sufficiency in its fuel requirements.

OTML Managing Director and CEO, Kedi Ilimbit, said in a media statement this evening: “The decision was made after careful consideration of our operational needs and the necessity for reliable fuel services.”

“The transition away from Puma Energy demonstrates OTML’s proactive stance in addressing threats and mitigating operational risks to safeguard the interests of Papua New Guinea, ensuring the nation continues to benefit from the Ok Tedi Mine.”

“By swiftly engaging with alternative providers, OTML demonstrates its unwavering commitment to maintaining uninterrupted operations while prioritizing the socioeconomic prosperity of PNG,” he said.
