TWO MURDER SUSPECTS SURRENDER TO POLICE

Two murder suspects over separate weekend killings voluntarily surrendered themselves to Laloki-based police officers of the Central Police Command yesterday.

The voluntary surrender was attributed to good public relations devised by the police personnel.

Central Provincial Police Commander Chief Inspector, Joseph Salle confirmed that the first man who surrendered to police was the man who murdered his wife at Martin River in the Kariku district.

The man identified to be from Tapini in Goilala District surrendered to police when he heard that police were looking for him.

PPC Salle said the Goilala man surrendered to police yesterday at Goldie Junction in front of the village leaders and the police. He said he is now detained at 15-Mile Police Station for questioning.

PPC Salle also added that another murder occurred on Sunday night and was reported to Central Police. Police officers responded and assisted in taking the deceased to the morgue on Sunday night while the suspect escaped.

He said police officers, while transporting the deceased, made a call for the suspect to surrender to them.

“Early this morning (Monday morning), the murder suspect sent words to the village leaders at Laloki and the police that he will surrender to them. Police units and the leaders were present when the man surrendered.

“He is also from Goilala and is now detained at 15-Mile Police station for questioning, I want to thank everyone, especially the police officers, the community leaders, and the public who assisted in the surrender This is a way forward in the fight against crime in the command, PPC Salle said.

He said the suspects would be charged accordingly.
