VONC MOTION TO BE VETTED NOW: IGUAN

The Parliament was suspended a few minutes ago for lunch to cater for the Private Business Committee meet and vet the Vote-of-No-Confidence (VONC) motion which was resubmitted by the Parliamentary Opposition last Wednesday.

The motion was moved against Prime Minister, James Marape. To counter it showing strength, loyalty and solidarity, Parliament voted 84-Nil in favour of a Vote-of-Confidence in the leadership of PM Marape. The Opposition MPs boycotted it saying this conduct in Parliament was unconstitutional and in contrary to Parliamentary Standing Orders.

Acting Speaker, Koni Iguan said the motion would be deliberated by the Committee which is chaired by Hela Provincial Member, Philip Undialu.

The resolution of the meeting will be announced by the acting Speaker Iguan on the floor of Parliament tomorrow. If the motion is in order, he will adjourn Parliament for one week so the Opposition and the Government MPs go into camps.

After the one-week adjournment, the motion will be debated by Parliament and votes will be taken for or against the alternative PM Allan Bird and James Marape.
